Ladies In Chicago has been withdrawn after refusing to load.
Not the best bunch of juveniles for this maiden. On looks there was little between Valerius Maximus and Forty Proof, and with the latter a 6-1 chance he gets the nod.
At a big price Katiesister looked well.
Orientalist's winning time of 1minute 26.49 was nearly three seconds above RP standard suggesting the going is a bit slower than the official good to firm.
Valerius Maximus was a good second on debut at Windsor, and on trainer Paul Cole's blog a statement says: "Valerius Maximus ran out of his skin at huge odds of 40-1 to finish close up to Hannon hot prospect, so he should be followed next time."
El Viento has been disappointing after a promising debut second, and sports first time blinkers for the next.
Assistant Robin O'Ryan said: "He has been gelded but then was still naughty next time so we've fitted blinkers. He's been working well in them at home so if he goes as well on track he should run a big race."
Buzz Law is now 17-2 from 16.
The sun is now out and it's a lovely afternoon here, and there were no real negatives with the whole field looking repslendent with the sun on their backs.
Of the market leaders, it was the tough Orientalist who looked thebest, with two at bigger prices also taking the eye. They were Grazeon Again and Buzz Law with slight preference for the latter.
John Fahy puts up 3lb over at 8st 2lb on (10) El Torbellino, and James Sullivan is also 3lb over at 7st 12lb on (12) Tapis Libre.
Saskia's Dream represents Jane Chapple-Hyam in the opener and the trainer said: "Over seven I'm hoping she'll get a bit of cover. I've walked the track and it seems good ground to me, I've got the man in form [Silvestre de Sousa] on board and hopefully he'll bring home the bacon."
Richard Fahey and Paul Hanagan -leading trainer and jockey at the track this season respectively, have plenty of chances this afternoon, and start with Common Touch in the first.
Assistant Robin O'Ryan said: "He ran a big race on debut and we're expecting another big run today."
David O'Meara has his string in great form at present, and is represented by nursery debutant El Torbellino.
The trainer said: "She ran quite well in some reasonably hot maidens and we think this track will suit. We've got a good claimer [John Fahy] who takes 5lb.
Mark Tompkins has Piccarello in the opener, and the trainer said on his website: "He ran respectably at Goodwood and is, undoubtedly, a horse that will improve again next year but he is fit and well. Ashley [Morgan] will take 5lb off his back and he must be in with a shout in this contest."
In a footnote to an earlier post, Ollie Sangster was victorious in the opening pony race, with his mount Sparky Boy just holding off Coveham Generation.
(5) Last Destination is out reducing the field to nine.
For those getting to the course an hour early, there are two pony races before the main action at 2pm.
The first race is off at 1.00, and features the colours of the Sangster family, with Ollie Sangster riding (3) Sparky Boy.
2.00 (3) Lady Del Sol
5.20 (15) Tropical Duke
Totesport spokesman George Primarolo is in attendance, and he has kindly provided a list of movers with the firm for this afternoon's meeting.
Smart Step is 11-2 (from 8) and is the best backed horse with the firm.
In the same race Buzz Law is 14-1 (from 16).
In the 4.20 Satwa Gold is 13-2 (from 7).
In the 4.50 Sarah's Art is 15-2 (from 9.
In the opener there has been support for nursery debutant Smart Step who is 11-2 from 15-2 with Stan James.
In the maiden at 2.35, there has been a punt on Katiesister with Stan James, 10-1 from 40, although 20-1 is still available.
Finally Peintre D'Argent is 13-2 from 8 with Paddy Power in the finale at 5.20.
Family fun day here on the Knavesmire, and it's shaping up to be a nice afternoon with some blue sky around and the in field crowd swelling nicely.
